Frequently Asked Questions

We want our clients to be as informed and feel as secure as possible to leave their beloved dogs in our hands. This is a choice we honor with every step. Your dog is 100% our priority, 100% of the time. Hippie Hounds is your health-focused alternative to corporate grooming and the team you can trust to treat your dog as you would.

The following are the questions we receive most often and hope to answer for all clients. Do you have a question that isn’t listed? Send us an email, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Questions About Grooming

Our grooming prices vary by breed, size, coat type, coat condition, and behavior. For the most accurate quote, please bring your dog in to meet us. We’ll be able to see everything we need to know! We also welcome phone calls to provide estimates. We will ask your dog’s breed, age, and weight as well as if your dog is spayed or neutered and if your dog has ever been professionally groomed. Please feel free to email us pictures of your dog: hippiehoundsgrooming@gmail.com! As with all estimates, the price may change as a result of findings during the groom.

Our philosophy is all-inclusive care at a premium price for premium results. Eliminating price intimidation barriers like a-la-carte service add-ons ensure that all of your dog’s grooming needs are tended to and no potential health indicators are overlooked.

To ensure the comfort of every dog in our care, our dog groomers divide and conquer in all stages of grooming. In doing so, dogs are never left alone and given time to rest to avoid standing for long periods. Full-Service Dog Grooming timing truly depends on your dog’s size, coat type, and condition, as well as their behavior throughout the groom. We cater to your dog’s comfort level, providing 15-minute breaks between each grooming stage and as needed.

We always do our best to provide you with an accurate estimate for your dog’s grooming time, but as all dogs are different, even within the same breed, we can’t promise an exact time frame to complete our all-encompassing services. Once we’ve let you know that your dog’s groom is finished, we allow an hour of complimentary care until she is picked up. If something comes up or you know you’re going to be tight on time, we will kennel your dog during our regular hours of operation for a $30 care fee, making sure they are walked, comfortable, and given water.

Our Self-Service Dog Wash, Dog Nail Trimming, ear cleaning, and toothbrushing are all walk-in services, available during our regular business hours of Tuesday through Saturday, 9 AM to 6 PM. The best time for Self-Wash is during the week — use your lunch break or scoot out of the office a little earlier! Appointments are required for any grooming or haircutting services. Call us to schedule: (425) 673-5447

Yes! Our dog grooming team works together on all dog grooms so that there is a 1:1 human-to-dog ratio in our salon at all times. Your dog will be given a Hippie Hounds team member-accompanied break in between each grooming stage and all the love from everyone in our shop.

We will accommodate your dog for 1 hour before and after his groom, free of charge. If more than an hour, we charge a $30 care fee to cover kennelling your dog during our regular hours of operation, ending at 5:30 PM, Tuesday through Saturday.

We ask that you please double-check your schedule to ensure you can meet the 1-hour pickup window when making your appointment. If you know you’re going to be tight on time, we appreciate you letting us know so we can reserve our kennel space ahead of time. We will include the $30 daycare fee when we make your dog’s appointment.

Yes! We provide dog grooming services to ALL dog breeds, ages, sizes, behaviors, health conditions, and abilities. We have seen it all, and we never judge!

Yes! Believe us when we say that we’ve seen it all in our 21 years as professional dog groomers.

We understand how scary the groomers can be for dogs and the many different stress responses they have to the process. Just as well, we know that some dogs are more sensitive than others. Therefore, we only have long-term groomers on our team who are also professionals at dog handling.

Always with your dog’s health, comfort, and safety in mind, we tailor our care to your dog’s specific behaviors and grooming history, taking every measure possible to minimize stress and help desensitize them to grooming over time. When making an appointment for your dog, we’ll ask you all about his/her sensitivities so we can best plan for their needs.

We are a strictly judgment-FREE zone. Please know that there’s nothing you can share that will scare us away!

Absolutely! If you are coming in for a Self-Wash, you can always call ahead to make sure that a tub is available. If you’re coming in for a Full-Service Groom, all members of our team are well-versed in dog behavior and are fully capable of dealing with aggressive dogs. We might even suggest making your appointment on a Tuesday, which we reserve for dogs with special needs.

To keep dog safety at a maximum, kennels are used intermittently throughout the process. We typically use kennels when you first drop off your dog (which gives her a short acclimation period), between stages for quick rests, and while your dog is waiting for her groomer once her blow drying has been completed. Kennels are only used for safety and comfort, never for “storing” pets, and your dog will never be left in a corner shivering alone in a kennel. We never use kennel or cage dryers on ANY dog!

We use a highly effective method of state-mandated cleaners that disinfect and are bactericidal, staphylocidal, pseudomonacidal, virucidal, fungicidal, and mildewcidal. Our cleaning procedures include wiping down the table between every dog to disinfect as well as cleaning all grooming tools. We also mop the floors every night! This amount of cleaning also helps to keep pests away, particularly fleas. And we have industrial air purifiers with HEPA filters to provide the cleanest air for dogs and our team.

We will accept a signed and dated excuse from vaccines from a licensed veterinarian. Typically, this excuse is provided when a dog in a vet’s care will have potential harm come to them due to age or illness. We ask that all dogs are current on all state-mandated vaccinations, even if you are coming to use Self-Wash. We require proof for all Full-Service Grooming appointments and will make no exceptions if a dog’s vaccinations have expired without a vet’s recommendation.

At this time we do not offer any cat grooming services. We proudly refer all cat grooming inquiries to Probable Claws Cat Grooming in Everett and Better Kitty Mobile Grooming (serving areas from downtown Seattle to Lynnwood). Cats Exclusive Veterinary Center in Shoreline has many great resources for kitty companions as well, although they are not currently offering grooming.

Questions About Self-Wash

When you come in for our Self-Wash, you’ll choose a bath stall — our tubs have different heights to accommodate all dog sizes. Each stall has shampoo, conditioner, and a blow dryer. We also provide towels, brushes, combs, scented sprays, and ear cleaning solution, plus aprons and earplugs for humans. Nail trimmers are available upon request, or one of our expert groomers can trim your dog’s nails for a $10 add-on to your self-wash.

Yes, you may bring your own shampoos or products if you’d like to, but doing so does not affect the self-wash cost. If you need extra shampoo or conditioner, you can still use the supplies stocked in each self-wash stall.

We currently offer self-wash services only. As our stalls are not timed, we do not allow grooming to be done, including but not limited to using clippers, shears/scissors, paw pad shavers, or other tools used to style the pet’s coat.

Our self-wash tubs support up to 500 pounds — no dog is too big or too small for our equipment. If you need help getting your dog into the tub, our team members are happy to help and can provide you with safe restraints for keeping them from jumping out once they’re in.

There's nothing quite like watching a gorgeous coat come to life, especially when the dog rocking it is as charming as Griffey here. We had the best time with him, and honestly? We think he had a pretty good time too. 😌🩵

Leave us a comment below if Griffey just made your day! 🐾

Some dogs need a little extra love—and that's exactly what we're here for. 🩵

At Hippie Hounds, we offer special needs grooming for dogs of every temperament, age, and condition. No dog is ever turned away.

Instead of relying on extra restraints, we bring in extra hands. A second team member assists the groomer, so your dog feels held, encouraged, and comfortable—never strapped down.

Because comfort builds trust, and trust changes everything. 😌🐾

Watch how we work through every millimeter of a coat like Griffey’s here, using one of the most important techniques for thick, long-haired dogs: line brushing.

So what is it? Line brushing means working through the coat in small sections, one horizontal "line" at a time. We part the hair, brush from the skin outward, then move up bit by bit until the whole coat is done.

Why do we do it this way? Because matting starts close to the skin—right where a quick surface brush misses. Working section by section makes sure every layer gets attention, not just the top.

And why does it matter? For dogs like Griffey, tangles and mats aren't just cosmetic. They pull at the skin, trap moisture, and can cause real discomfort. Line brushing keeps his coat healthy, comfortable, and looking his best.

It takes a little extra time and a lot of patience—but Griffey and all of our long-haired four-legged friends are worth every second. 🩵

On this episode of “Get Groomed with Me,” meet Harvey, the Pekingese, and watch Sallie give Harvey’s coat a glow-up with four steps: brushing, sanitary trimming, curved scissor trimming, and blending. ✂️🐾

We always take the time to treat your dog’s coat with the attention and care it deserves. Taking our time as groomers and giving your dog time in between grooming stages ensures your dog is getting the quality cut their specific coat type needs and is calm and comfortable the entire time.

Give us a call at (425) 673-5447 to schedule your dog’s next appointment, or tell us about your dog’s grooming history if she hasn’t been to us before. We are always happy to answer any questions and discuss your pup’s needs. 🩵
